National University of Study and Research in Law, better known as NUSRL is a prestigious university for law studies in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Each year a lot of students not just from Jharkhand but other states also get enrolled in this university to get a standard education in the field of law.

NUSRL Overview

Jharkhand State Assembly Act No. 4 established NUSRL in Ranchi in the year 2010. Soon, in the year 2011, the University Grants Commission offered recognition to the university under the UGC Act 1956. Also, it became a member of the CLAT from the year 2012.

The university started its session with 48 students and now there are more than 500 students in the undergraduate program. NUSRL has been offering undergraduate as well as the post-graduate program for candidates in law.

NUSRL Courses 2024

NUSRL offers three courses to the students and these are BA LLB, LLM, and PhD. We tried to provide a short introduction to all three courses below.

NUSRL BA (LLB) is an undergraduate course that lasts for 5 years. There are 10 semesters for this course to pass for which the students need to appear for 10 examinations throughout the course. Of course, if you fail in a particular exam, you have to appear in it once again to clear your backlog.

The post-graduate degree LLM at the university is a one year program and has 2 semesters in it. Students getting enrolled in LLM can select from three different specializations and these are Intellectual Property Rights, Corporate & Commercial Law, and Constitutional & Administrative Law.

The third course is the PhD course that is also known as the residential program of the university. This is a course with a duration of 2 years. This is called the residential program because students getting admission in this course have to stay in the hostel of the university until the course is completed.

NUSRL Admission 2024

Admission to NUSRL takes place through a strict series of steps.

Candidates who wish to get admission in BA LLB have to appear for the CLAT. Only students who have cleared CLAT with admissible grades will be allowed to fetch admission to the university. Also, these candidates should have secured at least 45% in their 10+2.

For admission in LLM, candidates need to have completed their degree in BA (LLB) from any recognized college of the country and should have secured at least 55%. Apart from this, these candidates also need to appear for CLAT to seek admission to NUSRL.

The university also offers admission to candidates who wish to do a PhD in law. Such candidates need to appear for an entrance test and also need to show their degree in LLM or PG with at least 55% from any recognized college of India or outside India.

The candidates need to collect the admission form from the website of NUSRL and need to follow the rules and steps provided on the form regarding submission of the form and the submission of CLAT fee as well as the university fee. NUSRL Course Fee 2024

Candidates who are willing to seek admission to NUSRL need to keep in mind that the university can be a bit expensive in terms of the course fee. The initial fee for getting admission in BA (LLB) or LLM is Rs. 1.75 lakhs for the first year. The rest of the fee structure will fall accordingly.

Students need to pay the fee to the university through NEFT or can also pay online through the HDFC Pay Online option provided on the website of the university.

NUSRL Facilities

NUSRL not just offers the students a perfect academic option but also offers several facilities for their benefit. As mentioned above, the university takes care of the internship and the recruitment of the students. Apart from this, it also offers other options such as a gymnasium, a hostel, and a library in the university. Also, there are facilities for different sports activities in the university for the recreation of the candidates.

The university organizes different cultural activities also from time to time to refresh the minds of the students who are always engaged in academics.

There is also a moot court in the university such as in many of the standardized law schools of the world. Here the students learn how to run trials and fight cases in a real-life courtroom. Along with mentoring especially on the topic of law, the university also houses other mentors who offer to mentor the students on different interpersonal skills.

NUSRL Internships and Placements

NUSRL has good contact with a good number of law firms and organizations. The NUSRL committee for placements takes care of the placements and internships of the students in different law firms.

The university believes in offering theoretical as well as practical knowledge to the students. Hence, after the end of every semester, the university organizes an internship of 6 weeks for the students. The need for such a schedule is to make the students ready for the challenges that they will face when they finally get recruited by different law firms and other organizations after the final completion of their courses.

The Recruitment and Placements Committee or RPC is the body that takes care of the recruitment of the students who are in the final semester of their course. These students are provided with the supervision of the proper faculties and members of the committee so that they can crack through the interviews of the recruitment drive and can get selected in the right firm.
